Some take aways from Unconference 2008
Spent nearly the entire day at Biopolis last Saturday to attend the Unconference, organised by e27. It was rather interesting to hear from Microsoft talking about Innovation, when I couldn't really think of an innovative product by them other than the Windows.
Here are some key take aways that was shared....
1. Trends in the Industry
- User Experience
- Collaborations
- Cloud Computing
2. Different Types of Innovations
- Continued
- Match & Surpass
- Greenfield
Innovation = Breakthroughs + Moment of Reality

I did also attend the breakout session on "Mobile Platforms" which was facilitated by Alvin Yap of TheMobileGamer - He looks strangely familiar. I was glad that there are people who share the same opinion as I do that standards in mobile platforms play a big part in moving the mobile market. John (that damn knowledgeable guy in pink) also shared about the success of using mobile in Japan. There was also a discussion on the iPhone and why people are crazy for it.
Yup, I am still not keen on an iPhone, only if they are able to make it Adobe Flash-enabled and let me have that true desktop experience for web.
The second session which I attended was on "Social Media in Asia Pacific", facilitated by Gavin Foo of Fleishman-Hillard. We were supposed to discuss and share on "the under estimated vast diversity of the Social Media landscape in Asia Pacific", but I ended up listening on a sale pitch on why we should embark on blogger relations and about their "good job" in SINGAPORE.
I was like... "HELLO?" Ain't we talking about ASIA PACIFIC? Thank god that the Ogilvy guys (the presenters competitor) stepped in to share on Social Media in Asia Pacific and some of the strategies that they have adopted for their clients... Yup, Facebook isn't everything :)

Hey there,
I'm from one half of the two Ogilvy guys present at the social media in apac session.
I agree with Bjorn on the beauty of the unconference. Which to me is a real life reflection of what online social media is.
In traditional media and conferences... messages are sent top- down and there's hardly any room for a dialogue with the audience... as for social and the unconference, it works like how blogs, forums, social networking sites do. Someone gets the ball rolling and everyone else has a more equal chance of participating and engaging in the dialogue.
We should have more unconferences in singapore! Maybe one just for social media... i think it'd be cool.
Bjorn & Nick: Thank you for "dropping by"! I think unconferences are great! But I am rather shy and not that sociable actually... LOL :P
illZ: Err, this is not about IT lor! hahaha...
