I haven't visited Sentosa for the longest time. Today, my friends and I decided to do a touristy act - to catch "Songs of the Sea".
Here is the synopsis from Sentosa website:
Li, a young man gifted with a charming voice, is singing by the sea with his friends when he is stunned by the sudden vision of a beautiful sleeping girl, Princess Ami. Guided by a group of mischievous Sea Creatures, Li learns that she’s under the spell of an enchanted village...
Seriously, the storyline is totally crap. It's just about Li (which sounded the same as "Lee") singing to wake the various creatures up. ONE after ANOTHER. At the last part when Princess Ami was woken up, she looked really tired and half awake.
The "motivators" tried really hard to make spectators clap and sing along, but everyone remained quiet. Ok, to be fair, the spectators ain't that quiet. Occasionally, the spectators will still go "waaaaaaaaaaah" after seeing the fireworks and the fire effects.
Rather than having such crappy storyline, I think using nice emotive local music that brings out the flavour of Singapore and accompanied with the fountain effects, fireworks and visual effects, will be a better bet.
Just take the Disney finale for example, there isn't any storylines and crappy actors who made me cringe. Visual effects accompanied with emotive Disney music had made me mesmerised with the whole finale.
I really miss the good old musical fountain that we had in Sentosa. Sometimes, less is more.
On the side note, I couldn't help but to associate it with "Lee" waking up this sunny island of ours. And yes, the charactor was wearing white.
Do you remember the Singapore National Theatre, Old Stamford Library and the soon-to-be-demolished National Stadium? These buildings are victims of urban redevelopment and they are part of our collective memories.
I was just wondering the relevant government agencies may want to look into setting up a permanent exhibition at the Singapore City Gallery on our lost architecture by building models of these buildings, accompanied with write-ups which provide insights to those buildings. For example, the Singapore National Theatre was built with funds jointly donated by the government and the public through "a-dollar-a-brick" campaign.
Just a random thought :)
There are alot of things that I wanted to blog about, but they are hardly politically correct. So, I shall keep that in my mind and hopefully I can get over it. Life goes on...

If you had the chance to read the other postings on his blog before he locked it, he is currently serving as a relief teacher at a secondary school and he actually bitched about how the Normal (Technical) students not being normal. So MOE do accept the visually handicapped as relief teachers? I certainly doubt so.
I've joined this big family for 4 years! So... What have I achieved?
Nothing about the abc series but my life. I think I need to sort out my thoughts and perhaps find a new direction.
Hossan Leong once said that Singa is not courteous, cos he doesn't wear pants. (Even the live mascot doesn't!!!)
Now, the Grammar Terrorist just commented that Singa is curt.
Well, Singa is innocent. He is just a mascot to remind Singaporeans to be more courteous.
So who's not courteous? The ones who approved the copy and the artwork lor. How ironic when some of these people who tries to promote courtesy as way of life are not courteous to begin with.
A little thought means so much. Courtesy begins with me.
Of cos, There's a Part for Everyone!
Bye bye Singapore Airshow. No, I am not paying for the tickets when my colleagues are getting them free!
I wonder...
- how truthful can my friends and colleagues be in this organisation climate survey, given to string of unhappiness that I have heard and contributed.
- if I am the only one who really said everything truthfully. Ti Kong Bor Bi (God Bless).
- if that will affect my ranking. Ti Kong Bor Bi, again.
- what will my big bosses do with our comments and suggestions, especially when it comes from me - someone near the bottom of the hierarchy.
- why my big boss is complementing one of her line manager's work when most of the work is done by her staff.
- why the middle management hardly makes decision - how to give good ratings for leadership? If everything needs to be approved by the senior management, then why have the middle management?
- why is my big bosses are not tapping on the collective knowledge of their staff, than to give their trust near-wholesale to the middle management.
- why the physical working environment is not part of the survey - The noise level in the office has very much reduced my (and other's) work performance. Yes, even ear plugs do not work anymore.
I think...
- the current senior management is more personable, and I can feel that they value and care about everyone in this organisation.
- positive changes can be done to this organisation, if they can recognise and differentiate who are really the good performers.
- my colleagues and I do have a sense of attachment to the organisation, hence the reason for some unhappiness.
- I am willing to continue contributing to this organisation, given that I had kinda rejected one job offer elsewhere recently.
I enjoyed...
myself very much during last night's drinking session that we had at Big Boss' place. This is so much different than the CNY celebration in Feb 07! But this time round, I had displayed my limited range of vocabulary, again - I hate taboo! Hahaha.. wait till next time that we play with the one we have in the office.
Oh yeah, "Tai-Tai" (太太) has made it into our organisation's list of approved English vocab - One of my colleagues has affectionally called ourselves the "Department of English Grammar" - see Facebook!
Big Boss and his lovey wife were excellent host, kept offering us with the finger food which ended up as "punishments" for the Taboo game - "Egg Tarts! Egg Tarts! Egg Tarts!". We would love to see more of such parties! :)
I seriously think this should be installed in our office.. The distractions and the radio playing on the other side of the LOW partition is driving me crazy! :(
